A new technique in hi-low coding of images

In this paper an efficient technique is proposed for coding of natural images. The image is decomposed into low-frequency and high-frequency components which are analysed and encoded separately by respective appropriate techniques. The lowpass image is first reduced to half by undersampling. The elegant 2-D Linear predictive Coding are then applied to this reduced image. For the highpass component, the locations and magnitudes of the edges are determined from the zero crossings which can then be reconstructed using a mathematical model for the edge response to the filter.
