A Multi-Channel MAC Protocol based on Link Quality to Improve Transmission Reliability in Wifeless Sensor Networks

In wireless sensor networks, concurrent transmissions with multi-channels of sensor nodes can dramatically improve the data reliability compared with single-channel transmission. Thus, many multi-channel MAC protocols are studied for improving a reliability. However, existing works have a multi-channel hidden terminal problem which causes many packet losses. Since channel negotiation schemes in the existing researches are also randomly accomplished, those are not suitable for wireless networks with unstable link quality. In this paper, we propose a LQ-MCMAC(Link Quality based Multi-Channel MAC) protocol to improve a reliability in wireless sensor networks. LQ-MCMAC solves a multi-channel hidden terminal problem by performing channel negotiation through time synchronization. It also improves a reliability by using multi-channel communication with better quality channels.
