New Complexities In Operating Systems*
Alan Shaw · INFOR Information Systems and Operational Research · 1979
Advances in microelectronics and distributed computing, in combination with user demands for more and better services, have created a new set of operating system (os) possibilities and complexities. Some of these future possibilities and problems are described within the framework of a generic OS architecture and several single- and multi-user environments. Our emphasis is on the decomposition of loosely and tightly distributed systems into modules and the use of an “object”-based model for specifying and programming the modules and their interactions.
