Analysing The Performance of The CP/67 Time-Sharing System

A method for measuring the performance of a general purpose time-sharing system is described. While the Control-Program/67 (CP/67) is in operation on the IBM 360/67, this observation method measures performance variables (i.e., the behaviour of both the system andthe users) without itself biasing the measures. The CP/67 system and particularly its scheduling and paging algorithms are described. The observed performance variables are analysed and some functional relationships of these variables are established. The behaviour of some other time-sharing systems are compared to the performance of the CP/67 system.
