Disentangling the Notion of Dataset in SPARQL.

The notion of dataset in SPARQL seems to be neither a simple nor a well defined notion. In this paper we first review the literature, current documentation and SPARQL engines to show the subleties behind this apparently simple notion and some of the ambiguities of its specification. Then we present formal specifications and algorithms to deal with them in practice.
