UML Usage in Open Source Software Development : A Field Study.

Mohd Hafeez Osman, Michel R. V. Chaudron · 2013

UML is the de facto standard for modeling software designs and is commonly used in commercial software development. However, little is known about the use of UML in Open-source Software Development. This paper evaluates the usage of UML modeling in ten opensource projects selected from common open-source repositories. We evaluated the usage of UML diagrams based on the information available in the open-source projects repositories. Our study covers the types of UML diagrams that are used and how frequently UML models are updated. Our findings also include the change in focus on types of diagram used over time and researches on how the size of models relates to the size of the implementation.
