A Priority-based Adaptive Data Transmission Scheme for Improving the Media Quality in Broadband Wireless Networks
Dongchil Kim, Kwangsue Chung · 2011
To provide the multimedia streaming services in the broadband wireless networks, the service quality of multimedia for users should be considered. However, broadband wireless networks do not guarantee the media quality for multimedia streaming services using scalable video coding techniques because the broadband wireless networks do not provide the differentiated data transmission. In this paper, P-AMC/ARQ (Priority-based AMC with ARQ), a priority based adaptive data transmission scheme, is proposed to guarantee media qualities. P-AMC/ARQ scheme uses the differentiated control scheme by adjusting adaptive modulation and coding scheme, and ARQ retransmission time based on wireless channel conditions. P-AMC/ARQ scheme improves the quality of multimedia streaming service as it provides reliable video decoding by using video inter-frame priorities.
