Abstract. This paper presents results of a preliminary evaluation of the OWL EL reasoner ELK running on a Google Nexus 4 cell phone under Android 4.2 OS. The results show that economic and well-engineered ontology reasoners can demonstrate acceptable performance when classifying ontologies with thousands of axioms and take advantage of multi-core CPUs of modern mobile devices. The paper emphasizes the engineering aspects of ELK’s design and implementation which make this performance possible. 1
