The graph-based ant colony system method was used to solve the reconfiguration and fault restoration of regional distribution network. The solving process is divided into two stages, namely the off-line stage and the on-line stage, to separate topological analysis from optimum search process to accelerate the computation. In the off-line stage, the topological analysis on regional distribution network is performed and the structural graph is utilized to represent the feasible solution set, and through simple the feasible solution set of fault restoration of different components can be obtained via simple transformation of the feasible solution set of the reconfiguration problem to avoid the repetitive topological analysis; in the on-line stage, the searching optimization is performed by simulating the ant colony's traveling in the structural graph. The path selection rule and the pheromoneupdating rule of traditional ant colony algorithm are modified to avoid the search falling into standstill. Taking an actual regional distribution network as the case, simulation results show that using the proposed method the economy of regional distribution network can be effectively improved, meanwhile reliable fault restoration schemes can be provided.
