Application of Image Compression Based on Fractal Method in WebGIS

WebGIS technique,the inevitable trend of GIS,has yet many problems to solved in the trans-mission and storage of images.The method of Fractal has very distinct advantage on image compression based on the fact that most of the map images have the characteristic of selt-similarity,which means it can be used in WebGIS to improve the effciency of image transmission and storage.This paper presents some discussions and suggestions on the application of Fractal in WebGIS.
