A Memory Global Optimization Approach in Virtualized Cloud Computing Environments

The combination of cloud computing and virtualization technology introduces a new pattern on resource allocation and utilization.Resource-on-demand based on virtualization can promote the resource utilization, increase the quality of service(QoS) and decrease the total cost of ownership(TCO).However, the resource boundaries of physical servers restrain the global optimization of resources. This paper proposes a memory optimization framework based on a two-tiered address space scheme,in which idle memory in a cloud platform can be remapped into a logical address space to provide reliable memory storage service. This paper also extends the virtual machine monitor to reclaim the idle memory in VMs.The experiment results show the work can accelerate the memory-intensive VMs through efficiently leveraging the memory allocation.
