Yin Xue-kan · Journal of Guangxi Teachers Education University · 2011

Acoustic vowels chart which is based on acoustic data can be used to study English learners' pronunciation errors.Acoustic vowels chart diagrammatizes the tongue position and mouth openness, which are not easy to observe by human eyes,so that teachers can exactly tell the different errors of learners' English vowels pronunciation. In our research,we have observed that the ranges of variants of some vowels are usually too large, and it shows that the learners' pronunciation is not stable. The ranges of variants of some adjacent vowels often considerably overlap each other, and it shows that the learners cannot distinguish the pronunciation of some adjacent vowels.
