Cycle Sleeping/Listening MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Network

Lin Liu · Journal of Chongqing College of Electronic Engineering · 2009

A wireless sensor network(WSN) is a spatially distributed autonomous wireless network system.Instead of building infrastructures,it consists of massive, small and low-cost sensor nodes. With incredible developments,WSN draws more and more attentions in both research and industrial fields, showing a great prospect of applications in military areas, medical treatments, environment monitoring, rescuing in disasters, emergency searching, etc.Due to the energy limitation of sensor nodes,an effective MAC protocol is needed for WSN to guarantee the efficiency in energy consuming. Therefore, the study of sleeping/listening MAC protocol has become a very important branch. This paper proposes a design of MAC protocol based on period sleeping/listening strategy, and gives the details of interface designing, with considerations of the channel access, transmission control, and energy management.
