A Algorithm Based on the Level Set Method for Spine MRI Image Segmentation

Level Set methods are robust and efficient numerical tools for resolving curve evolution in image segmentation. This paper proposed a new medical image segmentation algorithm based on level set method. A speed function is defined from the image data which acts as a halting criterion for the speed function. The level set function should be updated in a neighbourhood of these points. Examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the approach on spinal MRI images and the results are encouraging.
