This paper works on using PBL as a method for teaching network design.A two-threaded approach was adopted that comprised a PBL thread and a lecture thread. The PBL thread designed to place the students in the position of network design consultants who are introduced to scenarios that have a high degree of realism in which a client's business requirements can be met by adopting a network solution. The PBL thread allows the students to develop their design skills, while the lecture thread uses the traditional teaching methods to allow students to develop their understanding of network.A formal evaluation has been carried out and demonstrated a effective and realistic learning experience. Therefore,PBL is an ideal tool for teaching network design.
