The Five Dynasties was a period of multitudinous bandits caused by the oppression and exploitation of the feudal government,the famine,military activities,criminal activities,and so on.Although they would destroy the social order,the bandits also stroke the feudal regime and defended the nation and the home.The marked characteristic of the bandits' activity was that they first gathered in mountains and woods,strengthened themselves by means of religion,and then transformed to official troops.The rulers' policy to them was harsh punishment and cruel killings,making them attack each other,using local forces to contain them,or pardoning them and helping them settle down.But the effect was a little.
