Application of Bilingual Alignment Technology to Automatic Translation Scoring of English Test

Automatic translation scoring is a focused research issue which combines language testing and computer technology.The paper provides an approach of applying bilingual alignment technology in natural language processing,including word alignment and multi-unit alignment,to automatic translation scoring.Cases of un-aligned words and multi-units are analyzed in translations.Corpora used in our experiments are real translations from students which are manually scored by experts.Experimental results show that the number of alignment is significantly correlated with the scores,which can be an important parameter of translation scoring model based on multiple regressions.Lastly,the effects on the correlation of the number of alignment and translation scores are discussed.
