Combining the contention-based and scheduled-based mechanisms is an important solution for wireless sensor networks(WSN) MAC protocols. This paper studied a hybrid WSN MAC protocol μ-MAC in-depth and proposed an enhanced μ-MAC protocol Eμ-MAC.Eμ-MAC,designing for the periodic data collection applications, adopted the traffic information in the application layer to schedule slots.Furthermore,it solved the problems in μ-MAC of the low efficiency of GT sub-channel,the adaptability to the dynamic topology and clock synchronization. The simulation results show that Eμ-MAC enables better adaptability and is more energy-efficient than μ-MAC.
