Because of some inherent limilations of wireless multi-hop networks, the transmission control protocol(TCP) is inefficient when TCP is used in these networks. After analyzing and comparing the related researches available,a mechanism is proposed for improving the performance of TCP in wireless multi-hop networks. The following content is the basic idea of the mechanism:the sender uses the round trip time (RTT) to compute the transmit rate by the algorithm of self-adaptively adjusting rate for improving the congestion control. The result of simulation confirmes the validity of this algorithm, and indicates that the new algorithm improves the performance of TCP over multi-hop wireless networks.
