FPGA implementation of GMSK modulator and demodulator

GMSK(Gaussian Filtered Minimum Shift Keying) modulation and demodulation technology is essential in the spread spectrum communication.In this paper,an all-digital implementation of GMSK modulator and demodulator was researched.The key technologies,Gaussian filter design,CORDIC algorithm and FIR low-pass filter design were studied in depth.GMSK modulation and demodulation system was established in Simulink to validate the design.Based on Modelsim,functional and timing verification were carried out.Moreover,AWGN channel was built and the entire design board-level verification was completed.As a result,low-cost,easy to debug scalable digital GMSK modulator and demodulator is implemented in EP2C8Q208N chip of Altera.
