Optimal Search Theory and Some Applications

This paper introduces the theory of optimal search and some recent applications. After a brief review of the history, we survey some results concerning the applications of search theory to economy, communication, bioinformatics, medicine, computer graphics, and so on. Some suggestions for further research are also given.
