Analysis of Embedded Clauses in Functional Grammar

This paper focuses the analysis on embedded clauses based on the rank shift theory.In contrast to the attributive clause,object clause and appositive clause in traditional grammar,functional grammar views the embedded clause as the modifier of a constituent of a clause,thus,clauses which contain the embedded clause are not clause complex.
