Experimental study for liquid phase hydrogenation of furfuryl alcoholto tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol on a Ni supported catalyst

A kind of liquid phase hydrogenation of furfuryl alcohol (FA) to tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) on a special Ni supported catalyst was experimentally studied. And the effects of operation conditions, such as temperature, pressure, stirring rate and catalyst load, were carefully investigated, and the suitable conditions were finally determined as following: temperature 170?℃, pressure 4 0?MPa, catalyst loading 20?g/L and stirring rate 1?200?r/min.Under the suitable conditions, the hydrogenation of FA in the presence of the catalyst could lead to a high FA conversion above 99 6% and a high selectivity of THFA 98 4% within 2 5 hours. The catalyst could be used twice without further treatment.
