A New Image Retrieval Method Based Color Edge Feature

The image edge is a part of the image that has a high image gradient (i.e.the pixel values are changing rapidly),which is an important clue to understand image content.In this paper,a new image retrieval method based color edge feature is proposed.Firstly,the color edge is extracted by using canny detection operator.Secondly,the color edge is divided to some ring regions and angle regions,and the color histogram for each ring region and angle region are computed as image features.Finally,the similarity between color images is computed by using a combined feature index based on the color histogram for ring region and angle region.Experimental results show that the proposed image retrieval is more accurate and efficient in retrieving the user-interested images.
