A fast and Efficient Hybrid Wavlet-Fractal Image Compression method

A fast and efficient hybrid wavlet-fractal imge comprssion method is introduced in this paper which combined SPIHT coding and fractal technology.The fast fractal encoding based on the feature of an imge block's varianc is applied to the low pass subband of wavelet transformed image and a modified SPIHT coding,on the remaining coefficients.The experimental results demonstrate that the hybrid method can considerably shorden the encoding time method and no blocking effects from fractal techniques are introduced,improved the rationarity and excellence of the hybrid method.
