With the wide spread of network, security is more and more important. Message authentication codes are basic technology which are computed using a class of algorithms called Cryptographic Hash Functions to ensure that the message originated from a specific sender. Common algorithm in this class is the Message Digest 5 (MD5). In order to improve performance, an implementation of MD5 hash function was built on PCI-based FPGA cards using Xilinx Vertex devices.
