Visualizing Scientific Frontiers and Emerging Trends in the branches of Mechanics

Promoted by information technology,scientific knowledge visualization has become a new field.Based on the articles published during the period of 1994—2003 in 14 journals in the fields of fluid mechanics,solid mechanics,computational mechanics and vibrational mechanics,using the software CiteSpace to analyze citation data and subject words,this paper mapped the knowledge domains of the main mechanical branches by means of creating hybrid network of cited articles and citing terms.The mapping showed the representative mechanical works,the famous scholars and research fields,revealed the evolutionary process, hot issues,scientific frontiers and emerging trends of the main mechanical branches.The intellectual base,which formed in the last century and has been promoting current development of mechanics,is also deeply analyzed.
