Joint Source Channel Coding Method for Image Transmission over Wireless Channels

Xiao Peng Dong · Wuhan University Journal · 2002

Attach to Joint Source and Channel Coding(JSCC),we present a complete and detailed review in this field, including present development and possible future. Mobile channels are different from the wireline and storage channels. In a mobile environment the channel is quite noisy,we think that in a practical system seperate coding is no longer applicable and JSCC is necessary. Transmission of multimedia over time varying wireless communication channels can benefit from the use of JSCC. JSCC may be a way to optimize the performance of communication systems. At last, the best combination of Source coding and Turbo coding is still an open question, especially for fading channels.
