Fast beamformer via orthogonal projection

The novel algorithm directly constructs the noise subspace by means of array data snapshots, and then obtains the weight vector, which is the orthogonal projection of the constrained steering vector onto the estimated noise subspace. The perfomance of the presented method is the same as that of the orthogonal projection algorithm. The new method significantly reduces the computational load, and is implemented easily in engineering because it does not require eigen-decomposition. compared with the fast orthogonal projection algorithm using the difference covariance matrix computation in the literature, the new technique does not lose the system freedoms, and overcomes its drawback of the signal cancellation when the direction of interference is symmetric with that of target. The computer simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.\;
