A Fast Motion Estimation Method Based on Zero-Block Detection in H.263

Based on zero block detection technique,the paper proposes a fast searching method for motion estimation.It gets the best reference motion vectors from the error- surface and the center deviation characteristics,and it uses the direction and intensity information to choose the proper searching mode.To further speed up the implementation,zero detection technology is combined with motion estimation.The proposed method does not need any extra requirement of memory for saving searching records.For the small memory consumption and fast searching method,the algorithm can be used in wireless communications to resolve the limit of memory and meet the requirement of real-time processing.
