In order to detect the BGP convergence of the Internet, this paper presents an approach of analyzing BGP convergence based on data collected by a passive probe machine. In the approach presented,we get the BGP routing tables and Update packets passively received by the probe machine deployed in the Internet, then we analyze these packets to get a series of values which estimate the performance of the BGP convergence. The function of the approach is proved through an experiment with a small real network after we finishing the codes. The results show that this approach has good performance in analyzing the BGP convergence of a network without taking obvious instabilities into it.
