Image Coding Based on Fractal Dimension and Wavelet

In this paper,the fractal characteristic vectors(FCV) are derived by calculating the fractal dimensions(FD) from the wavelet co-efficients of different frequency segments based on wavelet transform of the image,then,the traditional block matching problem is converted to a method of characteristic vector in sense of FCV.Asimulation on some images shows that this algorithm can obtain the speed up of 77 times or more at the cost of little degradation of the decoded image quality.
