Neighbor Management Mechanism for Single-radio Multi-channel Ad Hoc Networks

Zhenquan Qin · Journal of Chinese Computer Systems · 2008

In a distributed wireless ad hoc network each node performs localized operations on its own neighborhood in order to complete a distributed task such as routing, topology control and etc. Thus the performance of such network greatly depends on neighbor management. This paper presents the neighbor management problem in single-radio multi-channel ad hoc networks, and propose a Multiple-Announcement Neighbor Management(MANM)method. With MANM,each node generates multiple announcements including its neighbor and channel information, and periodically broadcasts each announcement in corresponding channel such that all the neighbors on all channels can collect the neighborhood information.Analysis and simulation results indicate that MANM is a promising method for discovering multi-channel neighbors as well as an extensible platform which provides basic support for various services in multi-channel ad hoc networks.
