Multiresolution terrain representation (LOD level of detail) is a hotspot for creating realtime dynamic interactive rendering of a large scale terrain data in computer. On the basis of comprehensively analyzing the characteristics of multiresolution terrain representation model, the paper presents a new realtime interactive terrain visualization model according to the viewpoint based on bintree data structure. First, the bintree data structure and algorithm realization procedure are analyzed in detail. Secondly some improvements and extensions to key technological characteristics of multiresolution terrain are presented, including temporal continuity, priority queue, and error judgment rule. Some source codes for the algorithm are provided. Finally, a prototype based on the model is implemented, which has shown to accelerate graph rendering and maintain a stable frame rates. The model and algorithm is simple and efficient, which can support the interactive real time dynamic rendering of terrain model, and the results is also very useful for future correlation research.
