Model of 5 D light field for navigation in occluded environment

Image based rendering has been developed a lot in recent years. Various techniques, such as panoramic mapping, view interpolation, plenoptic function rendering, light field or lumigraph rendering, have been proposed to navigate through a scene from pre acquired images. Light field rendering requires no depth value and provides an efficient 4 D parameterization. But the 4 D function is limited to the unobstructed space. In this paper, we extend the 4 D light field function to a novel 5 D light field function which is different from the 5 D plenoptic function. It keeps all the advantages of the 4 D function and may be used in occluded environments. The resulting large image data can be compressed greatly by employing vector quantization. The sampling and resampling process of this 5 D light field are presented. Finally the results are provided and the future work is discussed.
