Real road driver behavior experiments on passenger cars were carried out to acquire naturalistic data of various types of driver's following behaviors, and the relationship among critical parameters such as inter-vehicular distance, following vehicle's speed, time headway and time to collision(TTC) was statistically analyzed. On this basis,a TTC strategy was utilized to design the forward collision warning-avoidance algorithm, including the determination of its warning-avoidance activation logic and statistically computation of its warning-avoidance threshold according to the experimental data of driver abnormal behaviors.Experimental result demonstrates that the presented algorithm is able to embody various types of driver's characteristics and improve the user acceptance on FCWS.
