To improve the performance of blind equalizer in heavy-tailed noise environment,a novel robust constant modulus blind equalization algorithm is proposed. The error function of the original constant modulus algorithm is improved and nonlinearly transformed, thus effectively suppressing the affection of the heavy-tailed noise. On considering shallow water acoustic channel, computer simulations are performed under respectively Gaussian and heavy-tailed noise situations. The simulation results demonstrate that the new algorithm achieves faster convergence rate and lower residual inter-symbol interference compared with the original algorithm in the Gaussian noise environment. In heavy-tailed noise environment, the original constant modulus algorithm becomes unstable, while the new algorithm convergences robustly to a low inter-symbol interference.
