A modified ESPRIT algorithm using spatial smoothing technique

A modified ESPRIT algorithm is presented by spatial smoothing technique to solve the problem of signal estimation in the presence of multipath environment of mobile communication, and a method to estimate the number of multipath signals is given. Simulation results indicate that compared with ESPRIT estimating direction of arrival (DOA) via rotational invariance techniques, the proposed algorithm performs well not only for independent signals but also for coherent or highly correlated signals, and has features of high resolution and low computational complexity.
