An overview on active contour model

It contour mode(lalso named snake model)is an energy-minimizing contour guided by the internal energy of the contour and the external energy of the image,which can be used in many applications such as edge detecting,motion tracking,image matching,computer vision,and three-dimensional(3-D)reconstruction.On the basis of the mathematical model of the snake,two normal models,the balloon snake model and the GVF snake model,are introduced,and many improved algorithms on the basis of classic snake model in recent years are elaborated,and many practical algorithms for solving energy minimization are detailed and compared.Furthermore,possible future research orientations are presented and discussed.
