Development and application of TERCOM elevation-aided navigation system

The paper introduces the basic principle,composing and technologic application of terrain contour matching(TERCOM) elevation-aided navigation system.The TERCOM algorithms and performance targets are provided and analyzed.In brief,this paper discusses several pivotal techniques of TERCOM system,which include digital maps,terrain correlation suitability,algorithms in matching and searching,real elevation data acquisition,integrated navigation and digital correlation equipment;then describes and analyzes some appropriate resolving scheme and examples,for instance,an approach to select the area for matching based on terrain entropy,the sequential similarity detection algorithm(SSDA) for searching,the equidistant elevation data collection,multi-integrated navigation,etc.
