A Brief Introduction to Computational Linguistics
Xuefen Zhu · Terminology Standardization & Information Technology · 2009
As an interdisciplinary new field, Computational Linguistics deals with the processing (including analysis and generation) of natural languages (such as Chinese and English) by computers. It aims, ultimately, to give computers the ability to understand natural languages, which will then facilitate human beings' interaction with computers. This paper gives a brief introduction to the subjects of research, the scope of research and the focus of attention in this field. It also introduces our own efforts on building the language knowledge-base, which is an important support for studies on natural language processing. And finally, the prospects of natural language understanding are discussed.
