A Survey on Ontology Specification Languages

With the advent of the Semantic Web,ontologies as the core element in artificial intelligence have attracted the attentions of many researchers world wide.Last decade saw many ontology specification languages come into being, providing a strong support for the ontology development and research.This paper first highlights the features of tradi- tional and Web-based ontology specification languages.These ontology specification languages are then compared by their expressiveness and inference capabilities.Based on the comparison,some guidelines are extracted for choosing ap- propriate ontology specification languages for different applications.
