Testing Method for Kapok Fiber Diameter Based on Image Technique
Guangbiao Xu · 2013
An indirect method is designed to measure the diameter of kapok fiber, because kapok fiber has a very high degree of hollowness. An image technique is used to measure the long axis of the completely squashed kapok fibers. Then, the measured values are converted into diameters of kapok fibers according to a mathematical relationship. It is found that the diameters of these kapok fibers vary from 10.99μm to 19.26μm, with the average diameter is 14.91μm. The research result also indicates that the diameter distribution of kapok fibers follows normal distribution. Compared with scanning electron microscope method, it shows that the results of these two methods basically match. The method provides a reference for the kapok fiber diameter measurement.
