Concept semantic similarity research based on SUMO

Dezhi Xu · Journal of Computer Applications · 2006

The Suggested Upper Merged Ontology(SUMO) is an effort by the Standard Upper Ontology Working Group of IEEE.The goal is to develop the Standard Upper Ontology, which will encourage interoperability, information searching, automatic reasoning and natural language processing.A method for computing the semantic similarity of two concepts was proposed and implemented as a computing module. Finally, the results got from the program were compared with the judgments of subjects.Through this experiment, the method is proved valid. The research can be applied in the field of knowledge searching, and it provides a theoretical foundation for the relevant research on ontology.
