This paper aims at introducing the authors' research on the adsorption theory and model. Based on the review of the traditional methods in studying the adsorption and its limitation, the author has advanced a new mathematical method for evaluating the methods and models of the adsorption experiments. As is known, the representative adsorption theories for the time being are distribution and adsorption on the surface. Adsorption models, mainly including the Linear Adsorption Model, Non-linear Adsorption Model, Distributed Reactivity Model and Dual Modes Absorption Model, can all be used to analyse the experimental data. However, this paper has done all the measurements on the basis of the analysis of the adsorption mechanism, particle size, SOC, CEC of the soils as the representative factors and accomplished the adsorption experiments with six kinds of soils gathered respectively from six areas. Grey relative level has been applied to investigate the adsorption theories and models. First, the experiment data were chosen and a relative and reference matrix about the adsorption amount and the particle size, SOC, CEC of the soils were set up. Then we have obtained the standard data of the matrix on the basis of qualitative analysis. And, at last, the relative coefficient and grey relative level were calculated and the significance order of the three factors was found. In the case of particle size from 26.9 μm to 38.9 μm, CEC from 12.49 cmol/kg to 38.74 cmol/kg, SOC from 8.85 mg/g to 17.15 mg/g, the significance order of the factors was discovered: particle size SOC CEC. Thus, it could be concluded that the major absorption mechanism should be the adsorption on the surface and the secondary important absorption mechanism is the distribution. In addition, it can be said that the Distributed Reactivity Model should be the optimum model to describe the batch adsorption. Though the conclusion is somewhat similar to the former research, it can be said that the grey relative level can be well applied in this case. Therefore, the grey relative level has been established as a new mathematical method to verdict the adsorption methods and models and can be used properly in the subsequent researches.
