Performance comparison of hybrid error correction between Turbo product code and Reed-Solomon code

Because of various fading modes in wireless channel, there are both random and burst errors in wireless communication systems. To correct the errors,reed-solomon(RS) codes are often considered.Turbo product code has also a strong random error correction performance, but the study of its hybrid error correction capability has rarely been reported at present.Based on the analysis of burst error performance of turbo product code(TPC),simulations of TPC with burst error parameters were performed, and the results were compared with RS code at the same rate and the same code length. It is shown when BER is,TPC outperforms RS code, and it can be near 3.5 dB.It means 55% bit energy is saved.Hence,TPC is a suitable solution for error-correction codes for hybrid errors.
