Software and Hardware Combined Technique for Defending Buffer Overflow Attack

Aiming at buffer overflow attack,this paper proposes a kind of software and hardware combined defending technology.After introducing the details of buffer overflow attack,it adds a hardware module in the form of a Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) that sits between cache and memory and that is able to defend return addresses from buffer overflow attacks.Experimental results show that this technology can resist the buffer overflow attack under small influence on the system’s performance.
