The Application of higher-order statistics coherency algorithm in seismic datainterpretation

Duan Chun-jie, Hanning Wu · Progress in geophysics · 2009

Based on the advantages of restraining Gaussian noise and information of common power spectral function, combined with higher order statistics and seismic interpretation ,the paper studied the higher-order statistics based on coherency algorithm, which replace correlation function with fourth order moment to calculate coherency and develop a new coherency algorithm. The new algorithm has very fast calculating speed and strong valid for restraining Gaussian noise. The result of practical coherent time profiles indicates that the new algorithm can effectively enhance the continuity, which is helpful to track strata and explain faults. It especially adapt to middle or deep structure interpretation.
