Study on Large Scale Map Generalization Landuse- oriented

At present,map generalization was one of the hotpoints in cartography and related field.Map generalization could be divided into two types according to its data structure(called vector model or rastermodel).Due to the complex data structure and massive data storage,vector- map generalization was often regarded as the most important research.This paper investigated a novel method combined nominal type of landuse and geometric properties used to generalize the large- scale landuse map.The landuse map generation of Nanbu County in Sichuan Province was taken as a case study.The whole procedure could be described as followed:In accordance with the mapping specification,reclassified the currentmap according to the mapping specifications.Last recalculated the polygons′ area,and took accountof the geometry and area feature of the geological polygons,in accordance with the mapping specifications,combined and integrated the large scale map.Itwas learntfrom the resultthat as opposed to the pure manual map generalization,this method was more precise,more operable,more effective,and met the requirements of the cartographic specifications.
