A Brief Discussion on Syntax Positioning of Monosyllabic Adjectival Antonyms
Duan Yi-min · 2004
There are three categories of syntax positioning of monosyllabic adjectival antonyms(e.g.big — small). The first is single positioning;that is,only an adjectival antonym appears in a certain syntax position. This category can be subdivided into replaceable syntax positioning and non replaceable syntax positioning. The second is coexistent positioning;that is,a group of adjectival antonyms,be it coordinate, successive, contrary, alternative, coordinately negative or repeatingly negative, appear simultaneously in a certain phrase or a complex sentence. The last is transitional positioning, including transition from monosyllabic adjectival antonyms to repeated internal structure and that from different sentence elements to external functions.
